*French Bulldogs are non-swimmers. Because of their chunky build and heavy head, most of them cannot swim and will drown if they fall into the pool.
Dwarf dogs: French Bulldogs belong to the group of small dogs. Dogs, who, through the centuries have been selectively bred to retain genetic defects or mutations to achieve various results of size and/or
appearance. With this selective breeding comes problems.
Anesthetics and the use of sedatives: Special care must be
taken during the use of sedatives or anesthesia. It is vitally important that
your veterinarian understands the need for this care and can provide it.
*Be certain that your veterinarian knows the special needs for
dealing with French Bulldogs
Respiratory complications: The shortened snout brings
with it breathing problems and in the case of the French bulldog snoring but
also potential health problems. Upper airways Are compromised and restrict the
dog’s ability to breathe properly. Under normal circumstances, this isn’t a
concern but under the stress of extreme exercise or heat can result in difficulties
for the dog. They are inefficient panters and cannot adequately cool themselves
down in high heat situations. They must not be kept outside under high
temperatures nor allowed to overheat themselves through activity.
Eyes: The eyes are in a more precarious position without a
longer snout to protect them, the eyes are in a precarious position and easily
injured.
Also, the eye sockets are shallower which means that the eyes tend to bulge
somewhat putting them at risk of injury.
Teeth: The French bulldog has the same number of teeth as
other dogs but they must be crammed into a much shorter snout causing teeth to
grow in at angles that may end up trapping food and require very early care at
home.
